TORONTO – Classes will resume on Tuesday after a suspected gas leak forced the cancellation of classes at an east-end Toronto high school Monday morning.

Police say students at R. H. King Academy, located at Kingston Road and St. Clair Avenue East in Scarborough, were asked to wait outside until buses arrived for shelter.

School officials say Toronto Fire Services and Enbridge are on scene to determine the cause of the leak. No injuries were reported.

The students who had shown up to school were moved to a temporary location but most went home, TDSB Ryan Bird told Global News.

“Given the weather today, there was a limited number of students there anyway,” he said.

The evacuation prompted some students and even a teacher to criticize why they weren’t initially sent home.

The Toronto District School Board cancelled bus service today due to the winter storm but all schools remained open.
